Saskatchewan Archives Week is rolling into Humboldt with the Lake Life exhibit at the Humboldt & District Museum.

All across the province, running from February 2nd - 8th is Archives Week, which was created to celebrate our province's heritage, our history, and the work that goes into its preservation.

The week is always celebrated during the first week of February with different reading events, historic film nights, open houses, galleries, and other various exhibits and entertainment spread out across Saskatchewan. Here in Humboldt, the Museum and Gallery will be unveiling an exhibit called Lake Life which looks back at archival photos celebrating being down by the shore and out on the water.

"It focuses on one of the parts of the museum collection that we don't often get a chance to highlight, which is more of the paper records," said Museum Curator, Jean Price. "In Humboldt, we're really really lucky. We have a very extensive photography collection from community members or organizations that have donated to us over the years."

Lake Life opens up on Tuesday, February 4th and will remain open for viewing until Saturday, February 8th.

"Saskatchewan has many many lakes, and Humboldt has quite a few lakes in the vicinity as well. People have always enjoyed going out an participating in different activities around lakes, so we are really lucky that we have this amazing collection of Lake Life photos."

Another striking aspect, that not only helps the Humboldt Museum and Gallery, but also goes hand in hand with the theme of Archives week, is being able to archive and provide details on some of the photos that are being displayed.

"One of the things that tend to be a little more difficult with archival photos is that they often come to us quite late in their life, which means that we're not getting them necessarily from the photographers themselves, or from people who remember who is in those photos," said Price. "One of the things we like to do during Archive Week, is we put out copies of the photos that people can write on to help us identify where things were, when they were, who the people in the photo are, and those types of things. That way we are getting the information that is out there in the community, back into our collection."

The Lake Life exhibit is free to attend. Cake and refreshments will be served this coming Thursday, February 6 from 1:30 to 4:00 pm during the open house that celebrates Archives Week.
