The federal government is investing $980,000 in canola research through the Canola Council of Canada.

This will support the council's strategic plan to meet global canola demand by improving canola yields to reach 52 bushels per acre by 2025.

Vice President of Crop Production and Innovation Curtis Rempel says their research focuses on stand establishment, fertility, pest management, and harvest management and storage.

"We look at yield at 52 bushels but the other part of the strategy is not just yield, it has to be increased profitability, increase sustainability and reduced production risk, and this research announcement and research projects contained within all addressed of those outcomes of our strategy."

Rempel says Sask Canola, the Manitoba Canola Growers Association and the Alberta Canola Producers Commission will also match this government funding.
