The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association is celebrating its 105th AGM and Convention.

It kicked off Sunday night at Heartland Livestock with live cattle handling demonstration and a presentation on Cattle Health, Performance and Well-being.

General Manager Chad McPherson says the theme for this year’s event is Raising the Bar and improving our cattle operations.

"That's just to reflect that producers are continuously working to improve their operations where that's through sustainability or beef quality, all kinds of things," he said. "We're always chasing a higher bar, so that's why we picked the team this year."

Anne Wasko from CattleTrends at Eastend is delivering the market presentation during the Saskatchewan Stock Growers AGM and Convention this week.

She says one of the highlights in her presentation will be how our basic position with Canadian cattle is trading strong visa vie the U-S.

"Kind of goes back to our tighter supply, are static cow heard, these extra calf losses that we're going to have the impact of as we get into the fall," she said. "All of those mean that our suppliers haven't grown like the US so as a result, our Canadian cattle prices are staying strong."

She says the industry has also seen strong beef demand for the first half of 2018. Wasko is giving her market presentation during the Stock Grower’s AGM on Tuesday.

Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart will address the group Monday followed by a NAFTA update from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Deputy Director of Trade Negotiations Karen Hodgson.

Other presentations will focus on markets, trade, the environment and water quality.

The Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association AGM and Convention continues Monday and Tuesday at the Stockade at Swift Current’s Kinetic Park.
