Thursday is being marked as Canada’s first Agriculture Day, a day designed to draw a closer connection between Canadians, our food and the people who produce it.

Candace Hill, manager of the farm advocacy group Agriculture More than Ever, says it’s a day for everyone in the ag industry to come together and celebrate and encourage positive dialogue about agriculture and food.

"It can be as easy as having a conversation with somebody in your local grocery store, it can be cooking a Canadian meal with ingredients from Canadian farmers. There are so many ways for people to get involved, it's all about sharing your pride and your passion for Canadian agriculture."

She said they want to continue to re-close the gap and bring the ag industry closer to home like it once was.

"We are ultimately hoping to turn up the volume on the great story that everybody who is a part of Canadian agriculture has to tell and to also create a closer connection to consumers to people outside the ag industry about where food comes from and how it's produced."
