Cattle prices have had a good run so far in 2017.

Brian Perillat is a manager and senior market analyst with CanFax.

"2016 was a really rough ride and hit some major lows in October and basically ever since then it's rallied pretty consistently here," he said.

"We've seen prices rise over 30 per cent over that time. Especially in this last month or event the last couple of weeks we've seen some of the biggest increases in cattle prices ever in terms of week over week."

Perillat says he expects prices to soften a bit as we get into the summer months.

He adds the price of feed grain and the 2017 crop will also play a role in cattle prices moving forward.
