Saskatchewan's Water Security Agency has released its spring runoff update and producers won't be surprised by the results.

According to spokesperson, Patrick Boyle, this year's runoff came early and was below normal.

"Runoff, generally occurred in the second half of February and early March. Although runoff was below normal, it was enough to fill many of the irrigation reservoirs in the area. For the most part, it has half come and gone, and had seasonal temperature kick it off early this year," Boyle said.

Boyle says the spring runoff is still occurring in some northern and eastern regions parts of the province.

He notes that the early runoff isn't unusual, but it doesn't happen often.

"It's not uncommon but the timing, and the temperatures above normal, are not something we don't usually see in January, February and March," he added.
