The arrival of harvest also comes with a renewed message about grain bin safety.

Glen Blahey of the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association says a large-capacity auger can move hundreds of bushels of grain in a minute, while the average adult male only occupies two-and-a-half to three bushels of space.

He says it's critical to make sure that prior to that grain being put into motion, no one is on the surface.

He also stresses the importance of understanding the hazards of grain and creating a plan for dealing with them.
