Harvest operations in Saskatchewan are underway for most farmers, according to the province's weekly crop report.

In the Humboldt area, 15% of winter wheat and 1% of peas have been combined and another 5% are ready to straight cut.

Swathing has begun as well, with 1% of canola being cut.

Despite the early progress in harvest, some wet weather still lingered, with Humboldt seeing 31 millimetres of rain. Twenty minutes west in Bruno, 36 mm was reported.

Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 40% surplus, 54% adequate and 6% short. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is 29% surplus, 63% adequate and 8% short.

Provincially, 3% of the 2016 crop is in the bin, which is comparable to the five-year average. 62% of winter wheat, 15% of peas, 5% of lentils and 4% of barley and mustard have been combined.

Harvest is furthest ahead in the southeastern corner, where 8% of the crop has been taken off.

Crop damage is attributed to moisture and wind, which caused lodging and disease. Many roads are still washed out with significant rainfall over the past month.
