Railway companies and the grain industry need to be prepared to handle a large crop - that’s the message from Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan President Norm Hall.

He says producers want reassurance that the railways in particular have plans in place to mobilize staff and equipment, and that grain companies have sales programs designed to handle larger volumes.

"We've got an excellent looking crop. We've had decent moisture, we've got the warm temperatures and no major bug outbreaks or disease yet. And although we're thirty to sixty days from harvest, the potential is there for another huge crop in the province," he said.

Hall added that in the 2013-14, railways claimed to be surprised by the size of the potential harvest. He says now would be the ideal time for grain companies and shippers to prepare for that potential.
