Saskatchewan residents now have a better idea of Why Ag Matters.

APAS co-hosted an agriculture discussion for the public yesterday,  with the five political parties running in the provincial election giving their views on Agricultural issues.

APAS President Norm Hall says it was important to have the political parties' focus on agriculture.

"In Saskatchewan, agriculture is 30 per cent of the exports. We employ 50 thousand people.  There have been five years now that we've set record exports in agri-food and this year was $15.1 billion and that's going to continue," he said.

Close to 80 people attended the event in Saskatoon with another 200 accessing the live stream.

"The government cries when oil sags because the economy sags. They lament when the potash industry sags,. But agriculture is here year in and year out. If the prices drop, we try to produce more so we can make money. We don't cut back, we don't drop employees. We don't move out of the province," Hall added.
