Have you ever wondered how the Provincial Crop Report is put together and how they get their information?

Well now you can play an active role in the process.

Shannon Friesen is a Crop Specialist with Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Agriculture, she says right now they are looking for people to fill 100 open RM Crop Reporter positions.

The volunteers help the agriculture sector know what’s really going on out in the field she  explained.

"Some producers and agrologists will actually base it on their local area, some will talk to other producers in the area and what they do is actually fill out that information ranging from how much rain fall you got that week, what are seeding conditions like? How much progress has been made? How much crop is left out in the field?"

Most of the openings are in the southeast corner but they also need people for the Yorkton region up to Melfort.

Those interested can contact their rural service centre or the Ag Knowledge Centre in Moose Jaw at 1-866-457-2377.
