Some parts of southern Saskatchewan are finally seeing or expecting some rainfall Monday.

World Weather Inc. Agri-meteorologist Drew Lerner says the rainfall is expected to hit northern and southern Saskatchewan later on Monday, while it’s expected to miss areas in the central part of the province.

He says precipitation levels will vary but south of Highway 1 could see more rain especially near the United States border.

"These areas could end up with moisture totals running anywhere from five to around 13 millimetres with some local totals coming close to 20 mm. The area impacted by the greatest rainfall today is expected to be relatively small in size."

The Monday afternoon forecast for the Humboldt and east-central region is calling for about 15 mm.

Cropping Management Specialist Shannon Friesen says the rain is a welcome sight especially for crops that were on the verge of ripening, as it will finish off and fill the crop.

"Certainly while the rain is much later than we would have hoped it will be beneficial to us in terms of filling some of the crops as well as replenish the topsoil. For the producers that did desiccate we may see some greening up of some pulse crops as well."

Many areas across Saskatchewan are reporting that this July was the driest on record.
