What was a great start to the crop year, turned challenging with all the wet weather we had which even caused a delay in the harvest.

A nice stretch of good weather now has some farmers hoping to get back in the field to finish that harvest; others say the ground is so wet they need it to freeze before they’ll be able to get back in.

Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation says so far they’ve paid out 887 post-harvest claims for a total of $43 million.

The five-year average is around 75 hundred post-harvest claims for a total of $170 million in payments.

Post-harvest claims are filed when a producer’s actual crop yield and/or quality does not meet their coverage level.

Producers are reminded that the deadline to complete their production declaration and file a claim is November 15.

If producers are not finished harvest by that date, they should request an extension of insurance.
