The latest crop report from the Ministry of Agriculture shows that seeding operations are getting underway for many farmers in east-central Saskatchewan.

Overall, 11 percent of the crop is now seeded, according to the report. That is slightly below the five-year average of 16 percent and well below last year's pace of 35 percent.

In the east-central area, operations have been a little bit slower, with two percent reported as seeded.

With more rainfall in the area, that is keeping many fields saturated. That is coupled with some still attempting to finish up last year's harvest.

Topsoil moisture conditions have slightly improved.

Cropland topsoil moisture is rated as 39 percent surplus and 61 percent adequate. Hayland and pasture comes in at 25 percent surplus, 74 percent adequate and one percent short.
