Agriculture technology is always adapting and changing to meet the growing needs of producers today.

Peter Gredig with AgNition was one of the presenters during the recently Ag Outlook with Farm Credit Canada.

He talked with producers about the fact that one of the best management tools they have access to today may be right in their pocket in the form of a smart phone.

"I think there is still functionalities that we are not maximizing. GPS, the ability to do real-time visual communication, I think those tools, we have not maximized yet," he explained. "The ability to access desktop software from the field, or from the shop or barn. It is evolution, but it such a powerful tool."

Gredig says producers can utilize Skype or Facetime with workers out in the field or mechanics in dealerships about an equipment problem.

Another option according to Gredig could be to speak with an agrologist about weed or disease concerns.

He says that there are some exciting advancements in agriculture at this time, including swarm farming, which is being used by some producers in Australia.

"There are some technologies that are truly game changers, and we could see that with autonomous tractors, where you have six small drone tractors that go 24 hours, seven days a week."

Gredig added that phones need to be used for more than just checking markets.
