Farmers go into the Canada Day weekend on a good note with crops in the field looking good to great.

The weekly crop report had lots of good news for farmers in East Central Saskatchewan, with haying beginning this week.

7 percent of the crop is cut, and 3 percent has been baled or put into silage.

Hay quality is rated as 23 percent excellent, 64 percent good, and 13 percent fair.

Rainfall in East Central Saskatchewan has also helped local farmers in the area with crop growth.

The weekly crop report says rainfall varied from 2 millimetres to 73 millimetres of rain.

Humboldt and Bradwell area farmers needed rain, and received it, with an average of 41 millimetres in the area.

This helps topsoil moisture conditions, as they were rated as 14 percent surplus, 80 percent adequate and 6 percent short.

Finally, Crops in the East Central Saskatchewan area are looking to be in good to excellent condition for this time of year.

The weekly crop report says due to the recent warm temperatures, 27 percent of peas and spring wheat, as well as 26 percent of canola is graded in excellent condition.

31 percent of cereal crops and 20 percent of cereals are ahead of normal development for this time of year.

Farmers are busy scouting fields for insects and disease, as well as haying.
