Big Brothers Big Sisters has just finished one of their biggest events of the year, Diva for a Day, with a strong outcome. The seventh annual Diva for a Day event was held on June 11, at the Humboldt Golf Course.

Executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters Humboldt, Jodie Hergott, was happy with the outcome.

“It was a great day, the theme was Hillbilly Soiree, and boy did we have a lot of effort put into costumes and cart decorating. We are so pleased with the final number that came out of this tournament.”

This year, BBBS doubled the number of participants, coming to a total of 144 golfers.

“Our caddie auction saw a record number brought in this year at over $6,800, and our event total, we are projecting, is just over $22,000.”

The event was a major success, stated Hergott, and is looking forward to their next event, set to take place in October.

“We are doing the Festival of Frights, in conjunction with the Humboldt Vintage Club. This will be a chilling experience delivered in the back hall of the Humboldt Vintage Club.”

Hergott stated anyone interested will want to bring a friend along as they make their way through a maze of horrors filled with spooks around every corner.

More details about the event will come closer to the date.

The events raise funds and awareness for BBBS, states Hergott. The waitlist for kids in need of mentors is always there but is starting to pick up.

“Our waitlist has picked up a little, we are now sitting around 21 children. So if you have thoughts of mentoring over the summer, please call to answer any of your questions. It would be great to get some more mentors enrolled in the programing and then we can hit the ground running come September.”

Hergott is putting the call out for anyone wanting to volunteer for the festival of frights.

“If you enjoy scaring people, or you have a strength in decorating, we would love to have you on our team. We are also looking for larger scale Halloween items, so keep us in mind if you come across them, or are looking to donate.”
