Halloween is my favourite holiday, and haunted houses are such a staple of the experience; I knew I just had to visit one this year.

I hadn’t visited a Haunted House in years, and when I heard Big Brothers Big Sisters was putting on a Festival of Frights at the Humboldt Vintage Club, I knew this was my year to put fear aside and just go for it.

It was around 7:30 in the evening when I went, and it was dark already, psyching myself up with some Halloween music like Rob Zombie, Misfits, and all my favourite artists to get myself into the spirit.

A group was in front of me, putting me at ease that others would be with me throughout this adventure, but as they went in, I was told to hold back and that I was going it solo. That's when the nervousness began to set in.

I heard a few screams, and then was told to walk in; I was definitely not as prepared as I thought I was.

I’m sure the scare actors had a blast as they heard my screams and saw me jump around. There are a lot of surprises around every corner, so you never know just what to expect.

The BBBS team poured their hearts and souls into this project, and it showed. (You can tell they really did - I saw hearts and blood everywhere!)

I highly recommend visiting the Festival of Frights, especially with some friends, as they have plenty more dates available to visit the scare fest. It goes on October 21, 22, and 28 from 7:00 - 10:00 pm at the Vintage Club.

It's all for a good cause, as the funds from the tickets go towards the organization to help them mentor children from the Humboldt and Area.
