The Humboldt Broncos needed a bounce back game on home ice Saturday night after Friday's lackluster effort in the Battlefords, they got it and then some.

The green and gold got goals from five different players including three Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League firsts in their 5-1 rout of the Yorkton Terriers to improve their record to 5-6-2, good enough for 6th in the SJHL standings.

Despite the lopsided scoreboard the Broncos did actually trail for a nearly a third of the hockey game. Yorkton opened the scoring 6:32 in after Carson Cayer laid a hard check on the fore-check allowing himself to get open in front of Brett Clark and tapping a perfect pass into the wide open net making it 1-0.

The one goal lead would stand to hold until the 3:22 mark of the second, Jace Pesch, back in the line up after healing from an injury redirected an Anthony Kapelke point shot for his second of the season. The 1-1 tie held until just past the 14 minute mark of the second, Jarrett Fontaine converted on a picture perfect three-on-two rush. Fontaine's fourth was helped out by Greg Moro and Logan Schatz. That would stand as the winner.

Three Bronco rookies would factor into the scoring making it a special night for them.

2:28 in to the third on the power-play, Drew Warketine got a one-timer past Matt Kustra making it 3-1. The Broncos youngest player was happy to get on the score sheet in his fourth game.

"I just a nice back door pass from Corey(Dambrauskas) and I almost missed it but it went in anyways, it felt good." Kapelke earned the second assist.

Rock Ruschkowski jumped out of the penalty box and found the puck on his stick for a clear cut breakaway which he snapped top corner past Kustra for his first. Moro earned the lone assist on the 4-1 marker.

18 year-old Wesley Shipton would tally his first as well to cap the scoring, Moro was credited with his third point of the night, Schatz also picked up another point.

Clark won again in the Bronco net stopping 19/20 behind a much better Bronco team, although Warketine says there is still room for improvement.

"We didn't have a very good game Friday night but we had a good bounce back game but it could still get better from here."

Kustra allowed the five goals on 34 Humboldt shots.

The Broncos were 1/7 with the man advantage, Yorkton finished 0/6.

Warketine said they will enjoy the win but it's back to business with the Notre Dame Hounds coming in on Tuesday night.

"We will just get ready for practice Monday, go out there and work hard and get ready for the game and hopefully get another win."

Face-off is 7:30, it's another Toonie Tuesday for the Broncos at the Elgar Petersen Arena. Everyone 18 and under can get into the game for just $2.

Prior to the game, Michael Korol was awarded the Jerred Vanderlinde Memorial Award for his involvement with the Humboldt Special Olympics floor hockey team which are the three time Special Olympics Winter Games Champions.
