The Humboldt Broncos took the rubber game of three against the Flin Flon Bombers on Thursday night at the Elgar Petersen Arena. Newly acquired goalie Jared Picklyk acquitted himself well in his first appearance with the Broncos, turning aside 36 of 38 shots in the Broncos 5-2 win.

Humboldt went to work early in the going with Ben Kotylak capitalizing on an assist from Matthew Van Blaricom. Jacob Boucher followed up three minutes later with the help of Daylan Weigel. The Bombers’ Jaeden Mercier narrowed the gap on a power play in the last minute of the first.

In the second period, the Broncos replicated the opening period scenario with two goals in the first half of the period. Spencer Bell worked the power play to score a minute in, while Chase Cook connected with Xavier Roy close to the halfway mark.

Once again, the Bombers responded on the power play with a Jeremi Tremblay goal to wrap up the second with the Broncos having a 4-2 margin.

The third period went scoreless until captain Ethan Zielke made his return known, potting an empty netter.

There won’t be much time to regroup as the Broncos head to Melfort tonight, Friday the 13th, for the first leg of a home and home with the Mustangs.
