The Humboldt Broncos will be heading back to the Cage in Nipawin with a two game lead over the Hawks in their first round playoff series. The Broncos took back to back home games at the EPA handily this weekend.

Broncos coach Scott Barney used his 1a-1b goaltender approach to secure the pair of wins with Jared Picklyk handling the net on Friday and Ben Motew manning the crease on Saturday. Spencer Bell and Lucas Ceccarelli with a pair launched the Broncos to a 3-0 lead on Friday. The lone Nipawin goal came at the top of the second, but Cage Newans scored on the power play,  and Ben Kotylak rounded out the scoring in the second to nab the Horsemen a 5-1 win.

Again on Saturday, the Broncos jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first and never looked back on their way to a 7-1 win. Newans opened up the scoring, followed up an errant rebound and a net-front scramble which Maddox Amaral took advantage of. Spencer Bell rounded out scoring in the opening frame with the first of 3 power play goals on the evening.

Alec Saretsky hit the back of the net just a few seconds into a Bronco power play for the lone second period goal.

Just 30 seconds into the third, Spence Bell scored his second power play goal of the night. Nipawin’s lone marker of the evening, by Broxton Buckberger, came a scant thirty seconds later. Then it was all Broncos will Xavier Roy and Maddox Amaral polishing it off.
