The Humboldt Broncos took control of last night's game 7 against the Weyburn Red Wings in the third period and sealed up a first round 3 - 0 playoff victory in an absolute thriller.

Weyburn came to play and handed the Broncos some tough situations in the opening period. The crowd erupted near the end of the first with what seemed to be a deflection by Jacob Strizzi into the goal that was disallowed due to a high stick.

The Broncos came out in the second with renewed vigour, but the Red Wings continued to block the shot lanes as both Dazza Mitchell and Ben Motew put on clinics in their respective nets.

In the third, the Red Wings got into penalty troubles. A tripping penalty assessed to Jacob Visentini was followed seconds later by a 4=minute high sticking call against Jerine Maharaj.  That resulted in a 5 on 3 which the Broncos capitalized on thanks to Boris Kofman.

Spencer bell scored his second of the playoffs moments later on the same power play giving the Broncos a two-goal advantage.

Maddox Amaral cleared a late game puck from the Broncos corner into the Red Wings empty net to round out the scoring

With the Red wings dispatched, it's only a couple of days to prep for round 2 action against the rival Melfort Mustangs. Those away games are anticipated for Thursday and Friday.

Once the schedule is locked up, we'll have the play calls on 107.5 Bolt FM.
