Carol Yvonne Hetzel
February 18, 1938 – May 16, 2023

The death of Carol Yvonne (nee Pfeiffer) Hetzel of Humboldt, SK, (and formerly of the Lake Lenore, SK, district), occurred at Humboldt District Hospital on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. She was 85 years of age. Carol was born to Roy and Josie (nee Hanke) Pfeiffer on February 18, 1938, at home on their farm in the Verndale district. She was the youngest of 13 children and had six brothers and six sisters. Being part of such a big family had some advantages; there was always enough people around to play cards and games, supervise homework, and to help with the housework and farm chores. Carol loved learning and attended Selmond School and a year of high school in Lake Lenore. She then worked for a couple of years as a nurse’s aide at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Humboldt. Carol met Martin Hetzel and they were married on October 15, 1957. Together they raised four children on Bright Valley farm, the Hetzel home place. Carol enjoyed farm life; the garden, the animals, the seasons, and all the farm work year round. She worked hard but still found time for relaxation and fun. Carol was active in extended family events and in the Lake Lenore community. She always had many good friends and neighbors around her. In 1989, Carol and Martin moved to Humboldt. She worked for several years cooking and serving meals at St. Mary’s Villa. Carol liked being with her co-workers and the residents very much. In retirement, she became a hostess for casino bus tours and thoroughly enjoyed the people that went along and the places they travelled to. Carol had a wonderful sense of humor and loved a good joke or story. She was talented and creative, writing stories and poems, and livening up events and parties with her fun ideas, often winning praise and prizes for her costumes and presentations. Carol also liked cooking and baking, quilting, doing puzzles and playing cards. She was interested and enjoyed many things and often said: “I have had a good life”. Carol leaves to cherish her memory her four children, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren: LAUREL (Rod) MacLeod of Sherwood Park, AB, and family, Amanda (Sheldon) Perris and Rebecca MacLeod; ERIC (Corie) Hetzel of Lake Lenore, SK, and family, Chanda Hetzel and Cameron Hetzel; SANDRA (John) Vercammen of Saskatoon, SK, and family, Natalie (Pat) Guigon and their children Kira and Orin, Patrick (Natasha) Vercammen and their daughter Violet; KATHLEEN (Robert) Bunko of Humboldt, SK, and family, Matthew (Meagan) Bunko and their daughters Jazlynn and Paisley, Megan (Nathan) Hollingshead and their children Stayden, Bay and Zoey; brother-in-law Joe Nosbush; extended family; and many friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin Hetzel; her parents Roy and Josie (nee Hanke) Pfeiffer; all her siblings: Gertrude (Willard) Anderson, Hazel (Jack) Crozier, Fred (Lillian) Chadwich, Clarence (Elsie) Pfeiffer, Cecile (Jonas) Groden, George (Idella) Pfeiffer, Gilbert (Karen) Pfeiffer, Forest Pfeiffer, Leona (George) Hoggan, Joyce Nosbush, Dennis (Mary) Pfeiffer, and Phyllis (Robert) Stewart; parents-in-law, Rupert and Katherina (nee Wockerbauer) Hetzel; extended family; and many friends and neighbors. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. John Ezeoruonye.
