Carol Elizabeth Hinz
January 22, 1955 – April 13, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Carol Hinz announces her passing on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Humboldt District Hospital, Humboldt, Saskatchewan. She was 68 years of age. Carol was born at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Humboldt on January 22, 1955, to Anton and Eleanor (née Lange) Hinz. She was the fifth of six children. Born with a learning disability, Carol struggled through school but tried to make the best of life. In her twenties, she moved to Saskatoon where she lived in various group homes and on her own. She attended a workshop there where she learned various skills such as sewing and cooking. Years later she moved back to Humboldt and worked at Futuristic Industries for awhile. Carol was very helpful to seniors living in Mom and Dad’s neighbourhood washing clothes, getting groceries, and whatever else they might have needed. She was always so willing to help. When Mom passed away in 1997, Carol moved into the family house where she resided until her death. Carol had such a big heart and a great sense of humour. She loved making quilts, ceramics, painting bird houses and working with scratch art which she was extremely good at doing. Carol is survived by one brother, two sisters, and three brothers-in-law: Larry Hinz, Judy (Sylvester) Ilg, Kathy (Ronnie) Poppel, and Ron Fogen; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Anton (1984) and Eleanor (1997); brother Allan (2021); sister Sharon (2015); sisters-in-law Myra (2015), and Dianne 2018; nephews Corrie (2001), and Dennis (2012); and all of her aunts and uncles. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Colin Roy. Others taking part were: Tara Keller, crossbearer; Tracy Peters and Kody Buckle, scripture readers; Ryder Ilg, intentions; Ryan Hinz and Travis Hinz, gift bearers; Darlene Cash and Liz Trach, communion ministers; Kathy Poppel, urnbearer. Music ministry was provided by director Loretta Schugmann, pianist Carol Esler, and members of the St. Augustine Parish Choir. Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Carol’s life”. Interment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Humboldt & District SPCA (PO Box 3942, Humboldt, SK, S0K 2A0) or to St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church (PO Box 1989, Humboldt, SK, S0K 2A0).
