That chill in the air means that startup for another exciting season at the Humboldt Curling Club is just around the corner. Shawn Wempe, club president, has the info on the season startup.

“We’ll be putting the ice in starting next week, and by October 24, we should be fully going for the start of our year.”

Along with school leagues which will be starting up on Tuesdays and Thursdays later in the fall, there is the usual variety of action slated for curlers of all ages and abilities, says Wempe.

“We’ll have senior leagues Monday and Wednesday in the afternoon, as well as a Monday and Tuesday Fun League, a ladies fun league on Wednesday, and our men’s league on Thursday.

Curling in all its forms, mixed, four person, mixed doubles is gaining in popularity - not only because of its national and international profile, but because its a game that all can play with plenty of opportunities to learn. Shawn says the Humboldt Curling Club has options for entry level players.

“For entry level, our Monday and Tuesday fun leagues are perfect for that. If it’s just you and a friend, we’ll get you into a league; it’s not serious at all with short games that are fun focussed. We’ll also have some learn to curl and drop in events later throughout the year. There’s an option no matter the day and how many times a week you want to participate.”

Humboldt has played host to other competitive matches through CurlSask, Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association and Curling Canada, so expect announcements about possible viewing opportunities as the season progresses.
