Farmers in many areas of the Province are taking an unwanted break from the harvest due to the rain.

Bruce Burnett is the CWB’S Weather and Crop Specialist, the CWB becoming G3 Canada Limited.

He says up to now the crop has come off in fairly good condition.

"We're seeing good grades in cereal crops especially wheat and durum, we're seeing good proteins, good milling characteristics."

Burnett added that  the recent rainfall will mean not only harvest delays but will likely cause some downgrading, "Especially with some of the cereal crops being ripe now it raises the concerns about maybe seeing some sprout damage and some other downgrading factors that could result in these heavy rains."

He notes the rain will mean more issues for farmers especially in the Northeast and North Central part of the province.
