For the second straight night Nipawin got a first period lead, albeit much later in the opening frame but once the final buzzer sounded the Humboldt Broncos were looking at a second straight 3-1 loss Saturday versus the Hawks.

Friday night at the Elgar Petersen Arena the Broncos allowed Nipawin to run rough shot over them tripling their shot count en route to Eric Bolden opening the scoring, Bolden turned the trick again Saturday but it wasn't until just 11 seconds were left in the first period.

Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko lamented on the post game show that they wanted to be better starting games and periods, unfortunately it was late goals that cost them.

"We wanted a better start and we got it, you know we got it. Two goals they scored were late in periods, those are now the times we've got to knock it down defensively and make sure they don't get any chances and we didn't quite do that."

Nipawin went to the room with a 1-0 lead after one on Bolden's sixth of the year, Humboldt did scratch back to tie it early in the second, just as a power-play came to an end. Matthew Parsons slapped a shot towards Michael Barabash in the Nipawin net, it bounced off the end boards somehow deflecting into the net to even the score. Michael Korol was given credit for his second goal in as many nights.

As Klimosko mentioned they couldn't get out of the period, Keegan Kjargaard would put the home side up again with under five minutes left in the middle stanza.

Showing no quit in the third period the Broncos generated twice as many chances as the Hawks but they couldn't find a way to beat Barabash again, he stopped 29/30 through 60 minutes.

Bolden capped the scoring with an empty netter in the dying seconds, Brett Friesen dropped his fourth game of the year in net for the Broncos allowing two goals on 27 shots.

Klimosko said he couldn't be upset with their effort but he continued to press the fact they need to start getting points.

"You can't really be mad because it was a good effort, obviously we've got to start generating some wins here. Great we're getting an effort, there is one thing to play well but to get a win is another thing and that's where we have to get to. It's another big week for us here and we got to really concentrate on finding any way to win a hockey game."

Their next chance is Tuesday night when LaRonge visits the Elgar Petersen Arena. That is a Toonie Tuesday game where all people 18 and under can get into the game for just $2. Tickets are available on the Broncos website or by calling 682-5575.

The Ice Wolves took game one of their four game season series 6-2 in LaRonge a couple weeks ago.
