The diamonds are polished, and the bats are lined up for another season of Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League action as a pair of local teams opened the schedule for 2024. The East Central AAA 15U Dodgers got their season underway at James Korte Field on a smoky Saturday afternoon when the South East AAA 15U A’s rolled into Muenster.

The Dodgers scored a lopsided 18-4 victory in the opener.  They went to work early with a double by Luke Manz followed by a Grayden Jackson home run for an opening pair of runs and never let up in the following innings. The Dodgers scored eight runs on five hits in the top of the second with a host of Dodgers contributing hits.

Three more runs in the third on a couple of A’s errors and a Sawyer Pollon ground out kept the momentum going on to the win.

The second game was a closer affair in a narrow 5-3 comeback victory for the A’s. The two teams went head-to-head in the first five innings, heading into the sixth tied at 3 a piece. In the bottom of the sixth, the A’s Seth Franklin homered to right field bringing in two runs and securing the win for the A’s.

The Dodgers take to the road on Wednesday when they face the Saskatoon Expos.

Meanwhile on Sunday, the East Central AAA 18U Red Sox scored a pair of shutout victories against the Z7 Sun Devils in Meadow Lake. Cam Marshak was back in fine form going 3 for 3 at the plate on a trio of singles to lead the way for the Red Sox and a 10-0 win. Dallen Rude took the win on the mound striking out 11 batters, allowing only one hit and no runs in his five innings of play.

In the second game, Rude went to work at the plate with a 3 for 4 effort on the way to a 6-0 shutout. Pryor Dyck earned the win for the Red Sox, giving up just a pair of hits.

It was a strong start for the Red Sox on their opening weekend. Next action comes with a trio of Selects games next weekend.
