Emile Andrew Deibert
October 28, 1929 – January 6, 2023

With family by his side, Emile passed away peacefully at the age of 93 at his home in Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan, Saskatchewan. He was born on October 28, 1929, to Michael and Irma (née Rollé) Deibert on the farm near Elstow, SK. He was the second youngest of a family of four boys and two girls. Emile attended school in both Elstow, SK, and Colonsay, SK. In 1957 Emile married the love of his life Alma Brochu. At that time, he was employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway as a station agent and was working in Wilkie, SK, where Cheryl and Ken were born. He was relocated to Wynyard, SK, where the last two children, Derek and Karen were born. A transfer to Gronlid, SK, and then to Pilger, SK, prompted Emile to resign as the frequent moves were hard for the children going to school. In 1966 Emile moved his family to Humboldt, SK, where he worked at various sales jobs including Sears, Humboldt Motors, Coyle Chev Olds, and ended his career at Humboldt Auto Body. Emile was a dedicated man of faith. For many years he was an active member of St. Augustine Parish and the Knights of Columbus, both on the local and provincial level. Throughout his life he enjoyed helping friends, neighbours, and relatives, especially his children and grandchildren with all sorts of projects. Other pastimes included dancing, curling, and gardening. Emile also loved camping with his family and later his grandchildren and spending time at their cabin at Waldsea Lake, SK. For many years Emile and Alma were snowbirds in Arizona, USA. In recent years Emile enjoyed watching the Toronto Blue Jays and cherished family gatherings. Emile is lovingly remembered by: his wife Alma of 65 years; daughter Cheryl Deibert (David Todd) of Regina Beach, SK; son Ken (Laura) Deibert of Marysburg, SK, and children Thomas (Kari) Deibert, and their children Lorelei and Armand, and Amy (Logan Pyett) and their child Alivia; son Derek Deibert (Sally Lockwood) of Edmonton, AB, and children Jillian, Josh and Emily; daughter Karen Deibert (Bob Poland) of Cranbrook, BC; his brother Ivan (Cecile) Deibert; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters Helene and Marcelle; and his brothers Vernon and Arnold. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt on Friday, January 13, 2023, celebrated by Fr. Colin Roy. Others taking part were: Ken Deibert, cross bearer; Karen Deibert, urn bearer; Sally Lockwood, and Bob Poland, scripture readers; Karen Deibert, intentions; gift bearers, Thomas, Josh and Emily Deibert; and members of the Knights of Columbus, honour guard. The memorial luncheon followed at the St. Augustine Parish Hall, where the eulogy was presented by members of Emile’s family. Interment at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed either to the Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation Saskatchewan (162 Oxford St. W., Moose Jaw, SK, S6H 2N6), or to a charity of your choice.
