Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the RM of Usborne including Lanigan, Drake and Guernsey.

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing some strong winds, up to nickel-sized hail and heavy rain.

The thunderstorm is located north of Drake and is moving slowly southward.

Environment Canada stated in the warning, “Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when thunderstorms are likely to produce large hail, damaging winds, or torrential rainfall.

Funnel clouds have been reported near Young, around 1:25 pm on Friday, July 15.
