A house fire in Colonsay last week has left a resident starting over and a community banding together for support.

Colonsay Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a house on fire at approximately 5 pm on December 30. Upon arrival, crews located heavy smoke and fire in the northwest corner of the house. They observed flames coming up through the floors from the basement which then quickly got into the walls and worked their way into the attic, creating a fully involved structure fire. Members of the Viscount Fire Department also responded.

Colonsay responders remained on site battling hot spots until approximately 5 am the following morning. There were no reports of injuries; however, the dwelling was destroyed.

Colonsay community members are invited to donate household items or clothes for the home’s resident by dropping them off at 901 Railway Avenue or 705 Railway Avenue in Colonsay.
