Gerald Norman Knaus
September 14, 1946 – November 16, 2023

The death of Gerald “Gerry” Norman Knaus of Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan, SK, (and formerly of the LeRoy district), occurred at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon, SK, on Thursday, November 16, 2023. He was 77 years of age. Gerry was born on September 14, 1946, to Louis and Emily (nee Paproski) Knaus at home on the family farm in the LeRoy district, SK. He attended Manresa and Loyola schools, both in the LeRoy district, and then continued his education at St. Peter’s College in Muenster, SK. During that time, Gerry was active playing hockey and baseball. He excelled at school and was awarded different scholarships, starting in Grade 12 and then later in university. Gerry graduated with Honors in chemistry at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, SK. He completed his Doctorate in Chemistry (organic) in Tuscalousa, Alabama, in 1972. Gerry proceeded to Fort Collins, Colorado, where he spent two years doing post-doctoral work. In May 1974, he moved to Kingston, ON, for research. Finally, having spent enough time behind a lab bench, Gerry returned to Saskatchewan and did one year Education at the University of Saskatchewan. He started teaching Chemistry at Leboldus High School in Regina in the fall of 1976. Gerry continued his love of hockey and ball by coaching school teams. He also became involved in the farm with Dale and Roger, going out on weekends and spending the summer. Gerry retired from teaching in June 2004, and took up farming full-time with his brother Dale. Some would say that Gerry was very stubborn, but he was definitely opinionated. He never married, but his nephews and nieces were a big part of his life right until his death. Gerry is survived by two brothers and their families: ED Knaus (Alexis) and family, Valerie Lambert (Brent), Joanne Rawlinson and her children Chase, Hank and Crosby, and Gordon Knaus (Shawna) and their children Annabelle and Archer; DALE Knaus (Nicole) and family, Louis Knaus (Nicole) and their children Sydney, Britta and Myles, Amelia Hodges (Stanley) and their children Scarlett, Gavin and Casper, Roger Knaus (Danielle) and their children Sean and Finn, and Sarah Knaus; Beverley’s family, Brad Koski (Edie) and family, Melissa Normand (Doug) and their children Aubrey, Isla, Emmeline, Rosalie and Sophie, Brad Koski Jr. (Michelle) and their children Callie and Hannah; and by sister-in-law, Nancy Knaus. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Emily (nee Paproski) Knaus; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Ted Koski; and by his brothers, Roger Knaus and Gordon Knaus. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Lanigan, on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Augustine Osei-Bonsu. Others taking part were: Roger Knaus, cross bearer; Nicole Knaus and Nicole Boulet-Knaus, scripture readers; Joanne Rawlinson, intentions; Amelia Hodges and Scarlett Hodges, giftbearers; Edie Koski and Nancy Knaus, memorial table attendants; and Louis Knaus, eulogist, read by Amelia Hodges; Louis Knaus, and urn bearer. Interment followed at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in the LeRoy District, SK. Memorial donations may be directed to either Central Parkland Lodge (P.O. Box 459, Lanigan, SK, S0K 2M0) or the Lung Association of Saskatchewan (2308 Arlington Ave., Saskatoon, SK, S7J 3L3).
