Horizon Central Athletic Association (HCAA) golfers took to the links at McNabb Regional Park in Watson yesterday for the annual district championship. Dozens of golfers from the Horizon School Division and affiliated school teed off in the annual challenge, each one vying for provincial glory.

Coming out on top in the female category was Kawacatoose's Hailey Thunderchild with a 9-shot advantage over second place Trinity Piatt of St. Brieux. Meanwhile, LeRoy’s Dylan Froess shot a 79 to squeeze out Wynyard's Gavin Bodnarchuk and Ayden Melsted, both with a score of 82, in the male competition.

McCartney Johnson of Wadena and Dannica Bodnarchuk of Wynyard rounded out the top four females, and Tryce Wallin of Humboldt sealed the top four males.

The top four finishers in both the male event and the female event advance to the SHSAA Provincial Championship in Elbow on Sept. 22/23.  Each golfer will have the opportunity to play for Provincial gold, and the four males and four females will also compete as the HCAA team in the team event.
