Henry Herbert Meyer
July 6, 1931– October 9, 2022

On Sunday, October 9, 2022, Henry Meyer passed away at Cudworth Nursing Home in Cudworth, Saskatchewan, at the age of 91 years. Henry was the fourth child of Gerhard and Anna (née Letang) Meyer and was born at their home on SE 15-39-21 W2nd, on Sunday, June 7, 1931. He grew up on the family farm with his five brothers and two sisters. Henry attended Schuler School, about a mile from where he lived, until grade eight. He worked at the Massey Ferguson dealership in Lake Lenore, SK, in 1947. Henry worked for Tony Mamer setting up telephone lines in the St. Brieux, SK, area and worked for different local farmers. With work being difficult to find around home, Henry went to work for McMillan Bloedel at the sawmill in Port Alberni, British Columbia in 1952, and continued working there for several winters. In 1953, he came back to Saskatchewan to farm, operating a mixed grain farm with cattle, milk cows, chickens, and hogs, along with cats and dogs. On October 17, 1960, he married Adela Stroeder of Pilger, SK. Henry, along with Leo, started plowing snow for the Schuler Snowplow Club in the winter of 1966-67, which they did for several years. Henry was also a substitute school bus driver for several years. Henry and Adela enjoyed travelling to British Columbia numerous times over the years to visit family, and they made two trips to Niagara Falls, Ontario. In 1978, they travelled to Toronto, ON, as chaperones with the school band that marched in the Grey Cup Parade when their daughter, Anita, was in the band. Camping, playing cards, (especially buck), dancing, going to polka fests, and long phone calls with family were some of Henry’s favourite pastimes. Henry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, earning the nickname Pesty Grandpa. He loved all animals, especially cattle and dogs. Henry and Adela retired to Humboldt, SK, in 1997, and he continued to drive out to the farm to help until 2011. In February of 2019, Henry spent time at Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson, SK, and St. Mary’s Villa in Humboldt, SK, until his final move to Cudworth Nursing Home, Cudworth, SK, in April 2019, where he lived until his passing. Henry will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of nearly 62 years, Adela; children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Ward and Laurie Meyer, Cole Meyer and Mark Meyer; Duane and Anita Knittig, Dylan Knittig (Shelby Juravle), Braden Knittig (Carley Allen), and Carter Knittig (Madison Kolbeck); Lavern and Vicky Meyer and her children Brittney Prosser (Travis Whynot), Carter and Miriah, Courtney and Kevin Handel, Berlyn, and Mitchell Hewitt (Niki), Rene; Melvin and Gail Meyer, Clayton and Mahlena Meyer, Hudson and Rory, Tawnya and Jonathon Lorenz, Jaeger and Jacob; and Nolan and Diane Meyer, Carson Meyer, Colby Meyer, and Dawson Meyer; sister Marion Leger; sister-in-law Evlyn Meyer; brother-in-law Don Saretsky; and members of Adela’s family Dan Stroeder (Connie), and Fran Schidlowsky.
