Hugo Herbert Korte
November 17, 1933 – May 20, 2023

On November 17, 1933, Hugo was born on the Korte farm, northeast of Muenster, SK, to Herman and Cecelia (née Kuemper) Korte, the sixth of 12 children. Hugo grew up on the family farm and attended Golden Rule School. He had various jobs which included cutting brush, working as a mechanic, and one winter working in Prince George, BC, at the sawmill. Eventually he went to work buying grain and spent 41 years in the grain business. On August 20, 1958, Hugo married Vivian Rath at St. Gertrude Church in the Muenster District. They were blessed with a family of five children - two daughters and three sons. Hugo’s job in the grain industry led the family to various communities across Saskatchewan – Wolverine, Quinton, Melville and Muenster. Hugo retired from the Sask Wheat Pool in 1997. Over the years, he volunteered his time to many organizations. Hugo was an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, an active member of St. Augustine Roman Catholic Parish, part of the Humboldt Vintage Club, a councillor for the Village of Muenster for many years and he spent 22 cherished years as a member of the Bier Tent Gang, where he made many lifelong friends. Hugo was an amazing carpenter and had a love of singing! He was a social man – Hugo enjoyed sharing stories and always had time for a visit. Hugo and Vivian retired to Humboldt in 1992. An avid supporter of the Humboldt Broncos – Hugo was a season ticket holder for 35 years! He’d spend his time doing word searches, enjoyed reading non-fiction and loved watching all sports on TV. Hugo enjoyed get-togethers and sing-alongs in the backyard but he especially loved time spent with his children and grandchildren whether it was a family BBQ or ordering in food from Wong’s. Hugo passed away peacefully at Humboldt District Hospital, with family by his side, and the family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Levick-Brown and all the nursing staff for their excellent care of Hugo.
