At the regular meeting of the Humboldt City Council held on Monday, February 27, Council recommended changes to previous plans regarding watermain replacements.

Council recommended that the 3rd Avenue watermain replacement project with an estimated cost of $592,000, be approved to proceed in 2023 and that the 12th Street watermain replacement project with an estimated cost of $120,000, also be approved to proceed in 2023.

Council also recommended that the approval for the 4th Avenue roadways project, set to happen in 2023, be withdrawn and included in their five-year plan as a proposed project for 2024.

“Essentially what we are asking here is to shift around a few of the projects over the next three years, just so we can focus more on watermains this year and get our losses under control a bit better and not have to deal with untimely repairs that are quite inconvenient in the middle of winter,” says Peter Bergquist, director of public works. “Overall, over the next three years, shifting the projects around balance out. It’s just a matter of doing more in 2023 with watermains and then doing more roadway projects in 2024.”

Council adopted the recommendation.
