The second annual Humboldt Vintage Club Car Show had something for everyone. Whether it was the nostalgic feel of a classic roadster or the excitement of the latest in production line speedsters, the show had it all.

The weekend rains skirted the Vintage Club grounds on Highway 20 south of Humboldt long enough for cars and trucks to pull in, and for a sizable crowd to mingle among the showpieces and visit with the exhibitors.

Les Hilgers, organizer on behalf of the Vintage Club, was impressed with the variety on display.
“There’s a whole mix – I just watched a Bugatti pull in, there’s a Ford Thunderbolt; they’re very rare. There’s a lot of nice iron floating around the country.

There were even 18-wheel show rigs in the house, like Murray Pokolm’s rig, just back from a big display in Las Vegas.

The Bugatti replica, shown by Ron Sokolan of Humboldt, was also a showstopper.

“This was one of the most famous race cars that Bugatti had,” explained Sokolan. “The model won over 1000 races in its day, and they built replicas of it because it was such an iconic machine.” The sleek, slipstream design and single seat configuration made it a clear racetrack contender.

For those more into a spacious and comfort-filled ride, a 1941 Nash Ambassador 600 perched just across the compound. The vehicle was owned by Dan Gagnon of Spalding who restored it when the original owner, Dan’s father, passed it on to him. Part of the selling feature in the day was that the model had front seats that folded back into a bed.

“It was my dad’s car and I brought it back fairly close to new,” Gagnon said. “It’s an original, and the mileage on it is just over 15,000 miles.”

The day wrapped up with a parade back into Humboldt and toward the Uniplex from where the cars dispersed. There was plenty else to do and see on a day that saw an impressive turnout.

The Vintage Club thanks a host of sponsors including Pattison Agriculture, Hergott Farm Equipment, Discover Ford, Colony Chevrolet GMC Buick, South 20, Dan Wheels, Humboldt Co-op, Sobey’s Humboldt, 1st Stop Autho Parts, Affinity Credit Union, City of Humboldt and Humboldt RCMP.
