A public inquest into the death of Lucien Silverquill is set to be held in Yorkton next month.

Silverquill was shot in an altercation with police on the Fishing Lake First Nation on August 27th, 2019. The RCMP were responding to a report of a man with a knife in a residence causing a disturbance.

Officers applied first aid, and EMS were called. Silverquill was taken to hospital in Wadena, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The coroner’s inquest will be presided over by Timothy Hawryluk.

The Saskatchewan Coroners Service is responsible for the investigation of all sudden, unexpected deaths. The purpose of an inquest is to establish who died, when and where that person died and the medical cause and manner of death. The coroner's jury may make recommendations to prevent similar deaths.

The inquest will be held at the Gallagher Centre in Yorkton from May 16th to 20th.
