The investigations into four formal code of ethics complaints against four Lanigan Town Council members have wrapped up. The Town contracted Bloom Centre for Municipal Educaton to conduct the investigations which began in October. A release from the Town of Lanigan states that Council will decide how to share the report's findings, pending consultation with a Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) coordinator.

The release states that, “Bloom has conducted an impartial, evidence-based investigation in accordance with best practices, the Town of Lanigan Code of Ethics Bylaw, and the Saskatchewan Municipalities Act. All efforts were made to find the truth and look at opportunities to mediate the situation and relationship with Council and show good governance with the public.”

Interviews were conducted with members of the public, and the respondents and complainants as part of the Investigaton. The release notes that the investigation allowed for clarifying the issues, presenting of facts, determining relevant law and policy, and applying those to the preliminary findings.

Final reports were presented by investigators on December 11.

“Bloom acknowledged that the investigations have been challenging for the Councillors and the municipality,” the release continued. “Bloom also stated that the Councillors were willing and active contributors to the investigation process.”

“We found this process to be professional, insightful, and educational. As Council, we agree that we could have done better and are committed to doing better together in the future,” says Mayor Tony Mycock in the release.

There was no stated timeline as to when the actual report findings would be shared.
