Karen Elizabeth Fleischhacker
April 11, 1946 – May 27, 2022

A wonderful woman has made her way to the Lord. With faith, but with sadness in their hearts, the family of Karen Fleischhacker announces her passing on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Humboldt District Hospital in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. She was 76 years of age. Karen was born to Sylvester and Lydia (née Engele) Kalthoff in Humboldt on April 11, 1946. She was the only girl in her family, and she had three younger brothers. Karen started her education at Epsen School, a small country school located across from St. Joseph’s Parish at Old Fulda. Her highschool years began at St. Ursula Academy in Bruno, for Grade 10 she attended Carmel School where she lived with and assisted Grandma Engele, for Grade 11, she attended Humboldt Collegiate, and the next year, she focused on the tasks needed to run her own home as a housewife. Karen married the love of her life, Ralph Fleischhacker, at St. Joseph’s Church in Fulda on July 6, 1964. They moved to Ralph’s parents’ family farm. Their family grew to include four children and over the years they created many memories together, sharing meals, camping, hockey games, travelling, and celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. A woman of great faith, Karen was very involved in the CWL for over 50 years, serving on the Executive and as President, as Sacristan at St. Augustine Parish, a member of St. Joseph’s Parish Choir, and as Communion Minister at the church and hospital. Her community was important to her, and Meals on Wheels was just one of the many ways that Karen assisted others. Some of her pastimes included quilting, gardening, sewing, baking, reading, as well as playing cards or solving sudoku puzzles. With grandchildren to love, Karen was always glad to have a chance to visit and have time together as a family, at home or camping. Such an important part of so many lives, she will be dearly missed. Karen is survived by her loving husband, Ralph, of 58 years this July; her children, and grandchildren: Orrin (Cari) Fleischhacker; Trena Puetz (Ray Senecal), Tyler, Curtis, Kristin, and Kayla; Michael (Jaime) Fleischhacker, Ethan, Wyatt, and Bryn; and Cory (Chastidy) Fleischhacker, Cole, Reece, and Jaxon; siblings: Wayne (Marlene) Kalthoff, and Neil (Maryanne) Kalthoff; in-laws: Lawrence (Frances) Fleischhacker, Mary Loxterkamp, and Arnold (Norma) Fleischhacker; one uncle, two aunts, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Sylvester and Lydia (née Engele) (Kalthoff) Kloppenburg, stepfather Henry Kloppenburg, brother Myles Kalthoff, sisters-in-law Sherry Kalthoff and Caroline Kalthoff, and brother-in-law Irvin Loxterkamp. The Funeral Mass was offered for Karen on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Humboldt, celebrated by Abbot Peter Novecosky, OSB, and concelebrated by Fr. Colin Roy and Fr. John Ezeoruonye.
