It's a yearly tradition on Saskatchewan farms that dates back close to a hundred years, when the harvest is coming off everyone throws in a helping hand.

For three generations the Gerwing's have been farming in the Lake Lenore area and just like he has done most harvest seasons Calvin Gerwing has come home to help out.

Gerwing grew up in the Lake Lenore area now resides in Annaheim and is a full time employee at CN Rail. He says he likes to keep farming a part time endeavor.

"With my job its more of just a hobby, my brother is looking at it more of as a career."

Career or hobby it's something Gerwing has been doing most of his life.

Whether it was helping out after school or taking vacation time to complete the harvest, he knows every little bit helps.

"(Me being here) Speeds up the process and makes everything more efficient."

The need to be efficient is very prevalent during a Saskatchewan harvest, bad weather, wind storms or untimely hail can quickly change a bumper crop into a bumber.

Gerwing's not exactly sure how the crops will turn out this year, but is cautiously optimistic.

"I think if we can stay away from the rain and beat the weather they(the crops) will look alright."

Gerwing noted that all three generations of his family are still farming, including his brother, dad, and grandpa.
