The Humboldt and District Museum and Gallery is whipping up more seasonal fun with some help from Leo at Humboldt Ink. The group is preparing a series of workshops that shows kids how to make their own traditional Filipino parol lantern.

A parol is a traditional Filipino lantern that is displayed during the Christmas season. Typically shaped like a star, the parol dates back to the 1500s in Filipino culture. Leo will be volunteering his time at the Museum to help guide the craft and talk a little about the history and cultural significance of the star-shaped lantern.

Come to the Museum to your own parol lantern to take home and hang in your window. This workshop will be offered at three different times: on Wednesday, December 6 at 7pm, on Saturday, December 9 at 4pm and on Saturday, December 16 at 4pm.

Everyone is welcome; younger children might need a little extra help with the cutting and the gluing. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

This workshop is free, but the Museum and Gallery asks that everyone registers in advance so they can prepare the appropriate supplies. To sign up, call 306.682.5226 or email info@humboldtmuseum.ca
