Lorne Negraeff
August 6, 1927 – June 23, 2022

The death of Lorne Negraeff of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson, SK, occurred at his residence on Thursday, June 23, 2022. He was 94 years of age. Lorne was born on August 6, 1927, at Alice and Lena Hamers Nursing Home in Watson and was raised on the family farm south of town. He had a younger brother John. Lorne attended Quill Plains School and Watson High School. Following his schooling he helped on the farm in the summer and during the winter he worked on the oil rigs. On June 24, 1954, Lorne married Verna Pereverzoff. Two children, a daughter Jennifer and a son Eli, were born to them. They lived on the family farm south of Watson until the kids became school age, and they then moved into Watson. In 1964, Lorne became the first Administrator of the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, a position he kept for many years. In 1972, after receiving his Certificate for Municipal Administration from the University of Regina, he became Administrator for the Town of Watson, and continued in that role for 20 years. During that time, Lorne served on the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Committee, was a representative for the Department of Social Services for Watson District, and was a member of the Watson Chamber of Commerce, holding the position of secretary for many years. He was also a member of the Lions Club and served terms as Secretary and President. As well, Lorne was equipment manager of the Watson Rockets Hockey team for many years. In his earlier years, he played ball in the summer and curled in the winter. Later in life, his hobbies turned to camping and fishing in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. Lorne and Verna also enjoyed camping in Saskatchewan and out of province in their trailer, did numerous bus tours to the States, and made trips to Hawaii, Canada’s East Coast, and went on a cruise to Alaska. Eventually they sold their home in Watson and spent 11 years at Sunshine Manor where they enjoyed their time with all the other residents, having weekly group luncheons, celebrating residents’ birthdays, holidays and special events. It was like a small tight-knit community and they were happy there. Eventually both Lorne and Verna moved into Quill Plains Centennial Lodge at the same time and that is where they spent their final days, very well cared for. Lorne was predeceased by his wife Verna on April 7, 2022; daughter Jennifer (1986); mother Polly (1987); and by his father Lorne (1991). The Funeral Service was held at Trinity United Church, Watson, on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Brenda Curtis. The scripture reader was Dorothy Ozeroff. Words of remembrance were given by Eli Negraeff (son), Carlos Negraeff (grandson), Robert Negraeff (nephew), Dianna Katelnikoff (cousin), and Laura Pereverzoff (cousin). Music ministry was provided by organist Betty Wittig. Pallbearers were Eli Negraeff, Carlos Negraeff, Robert Negraeff, Bill Katelnikoff, Billy Katelnikoff, and Harv Ifield.
