Melfort RCMP is reporting an armed male at a residence on James Smith Cree Nation.

RCMP received a report around 4:35 pm on November 11, and an investigation determined that an adult male threatened the occupants of a home with a firearm, which was believed to be an air rifle. He then assaulted one person, leaving them with non-life-threatening injuries, and left the house. 

Officers patrolled the community, checking residences he is known to frequent, but were not able to locate him. 

RCMP determined that the man in question is Darcel Burns, 39, of James Smith Cree Nation, and have charged him with: 

- one count, using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, Section 85(3), Criminal Code
- one count, assault with weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code
- one count, uttering threats against a person, Section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code

A warrant is now out for Burns's arrest, and Melfort RCMP continues to look out for him.  Darcel Burns is described as approximately 6’4” and 265 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes. RCMP says he was last seen driving a black pick-up truck.
