The Humboldt Collegiate Institute Mohawks continued their strong start to the 2012 season with a convincing 48-6 win over the Nipawin Bears.

The Mohawks got on the board at the 7:37 mark of the first quarter when Brydon Wandzura plunged two yards for the touchdown. Just over five minutes later Tanner Syroteuk broke a one yard run through the Bears defense for his first score of the game and extend the Mohawk lead to 14.

Syroteuk would get his second of the game with 9:06 remaining in the second quarter when he busted an 80 yard run and the Mohawks lead 21-0 at the half.

The third quarter started a little slow with the Mohawks finally getting on the board with 4:38 remaining when Tanner Syroteuk scored his third of the game on a 9 yard scramble. Matthew Ortman would take a 30 yard run to the house a little more than three minutes later, before Colton Slipetz rushed an 18 yarder in to give HCI a 41-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Slipetz would add his second of the game when he took a 90-yard rush all the way for a touchdown to close out the Mohawks scoring. Nipawin notched their only score of the game with 4.5 seconds remaining after a late fumble in Mohawk territory.

The Mohawk defence had a strong game and Dylan Meyer, Tristan Hering, and Samuel Fritsch all picked up an interception.

The Mohawks will be back at Glenn Hark Park on October 4th.
