Mrs. Annie Romaniuk
December 19, 1918- April 26, 2015
It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden and unexpected passing of Mrs. Annie Romaniuk 96 years of Saskatoon formerly of Watson on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at RUH. Annie was born in Fosston, SK on December 19, 1918 to Pete and Haffia (nee Yamniuk) Melaschuk, one of eight children. As a girl she went to Fosston School and helped her family on the farm. On July 16, 1939 Annie married Mike Romaniuk at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Fosston. Together they farmed Mike’s parents’ homestead NE of Watson where Annie took care of the house and animals and cultivated a beautiful, plentiful garden year after year that she shared with neighbours. They had two children, Sonia and Mike. Annie and her husband Mike were very active members of the Holy Ascension Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Wimmer and practiced Ukrainian traditions with family. Annie loved her family dearly and greatly enjoyed when extended family visited. She also loved sewing, crocheting and Ukrainian cross-stitching and made many pictures, table cloths and Ukrainian blouses for family members. In 1971 Mike died suddenly, Annie remained on the farm until 1973 when she moved to Watson. There she continued to be active in the church at Wimmer and in Watson, she invested her time in looking after grandchildren and gardening, and also enjoyed bowling. Annie and her friends travelled to the Dauphin Festival many times and she was fortunate to make a trip to the Ukraine to see where her ancestor’s roots began. In 2008 Annie moved to Ilarion Residence in Saskatoon where she was able to continue attending church, connect with people from the Watson area and make new friends. Due to failing health, in November 2014 Annie moved to Luther Care Home in Saskatoon where she resided until her passing. Annie’s warm, welcoming, steadfast personality will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her two children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
