The well-travelled stretch of Highway 38 between Kelvington and Greenwater Lake Provincial Park is set to see improvements this summer along with some roads inside the park. It’s thanks to a $10.9 million investment by the Highways Ministry.

Paving of the 23 km stretch of Highway 38 north of the junction of Highway 49 is expected to wrap up later this summer. An additional 10 km of roads within the park will also be repaved.

"Saskatchewan's parks have been extremely popular destinations this summer," Highways Minister Fred Bradshaw said.  "I am proud that the government has been able to enhance the experience both inside and leading to Greenwater Lake and other provincial parks."

Another 3.89 km stretch of the highway south of Chelan will receive similar treatment. That section will be completed in the 2022 construction season at a cost of $1.8 million, bringing the total investment to $12.7 million.

"Having grown up in the Greenwater Lake area, I know the park is a very popular destination," Kelvington-Wadena MLA Hugh Nerlien said.  "Our residents will also appreciate this investment in Highway 38, which is a very important roadway in our local transportation network."

There is $90.5 million of construction work taking place this season in and around Saskatchewan's parks, including 11 highway paving and upgrade projects, improvements to three park access roads and paving inside six parks.

A Government of Saskatchewan release states that it is improving more than 1,350 km of provincial highways this year, the second of its 10-year Growth Plan goal to build and upgrade 10,000 km of highways.  With this year's projects, the province is ahead of the pace needed to meet this target.
