There’s one more tournament left this season for the East Central 18U AAA Red Sox, and it’s a big one. The crew is off to Regina this weekend for the Western Canadians. The team earned their birth with a silver medal finish at provincials.

There’s been some down time for some of the players prior to the weekend tilt, but for others, it’s been steady play throughout August.

“We took a break for about a week or ten days,” says head coach Garret Korte, “Now they’re back at it. There’s been a group at home here that have been practicing pretty hard for Westerns. There was a group of our boys who were at the Canada Games, so they’ve been on the field the last ten days.”

The Red Sox squad will be bolstered by three additional league competitors. Joining are Carter Beck and Sutter Balog from the Southeast Twins and Boston Bast from the Saskatoon Giants. The three additional players also trekked to Niagara Falls for the Canada Games as part of Team Sask, so they’ve had time to gel with their four Red Sox compatriots.

Action gets under way at Optimist and Currie Parks in Regina on Friday. There are six teams in the tournament from BC, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan including the host Regina Wolf Pack. The Red Sox opener is Friday at noon in Optimist Park against the Winnipeg South Wolves.
