Over 500 students gathered at St. Peter's College on Wednesday to explore post-secondary and career options.

For more than the past decade, Opportunities Edge has allowed presenters to give area students an in depth look at what they can expect following high school.

"Students arrive here, they participate in exhibition hall, where they can ask questions, and find out information. Among the presenters are post-secondary institutions across Western Canada and the States," explained St. Pete's Student Services Officer, Maury Wrubleski. "We have local businesses and industries here, who are ready to give information and advice, either about recruiting into industry, and trades."

Wrubleski added that the expo helps expand a student's horizon, potentially opening their eyes to more options.

"It is a showcase for opportunities they may not be aware of, that they may be aware of, but haven't thought before. Simply just to find a different way of looking at their lives and their futures down the line as far as work and study goes."

Heading off into a world of unknowns can be worrisome for the majority of students, and Wrubleski has found that there is a comfort level and overall positivity from attendees, being able to get information well in advance.

"The reaction from the students I have talked to this year, it's been very positive. The presenter sessions are an opportunity to get more in depth information. Students can ask questions and get specifics about programs or about operations of an employer, so I think they see that as a positive that they can get in touch a little bit more."

Forty-two presenters were on hand for the expo, and new this year was a Counsellors Connection, where Horizon School Division career counselors were available to discuss options.
