This weekend promises plenty of high calibre softball action as the U19 B Softball Provincials roll into Humboldt’s Centennial Park. The local team of interest is the East Central Riverdogs, composed of young women from Humboldt, Muenster, Tisdale and Watrous. Local players include Kaylee Hofmann of Muenster, Nicole Girolami, Emma Abrey, and Jaeden Simpson all of Humboldt.

The Humboldt venue was not originally on the books, says Chris Stadnyk with the team, but the city graciously jumped in to host. It’s the culmination of a year that saw the team, with no regular league, hone their skills at tournaments in Saskatchewan and Alberta.

“The tournament was originally scheduled to be in Regina, but due to both teams being closer to Humboldt, Softball Sask granted us the chance to host it in Humboldt.”

The tournament is a best of three with two games scheduled on Saturday at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, with the third and deciding game, if necessary, going on Sunday at 1:00 pm. Stadnyk hopes to see good fan support given that many of the players will age out this year and are looking for that final crowning achievement.
